It\u2019s June already.\u00a0 <\/span>How can that be?\u00a0 <\/span>School will be out in a couple weeks and the kids will be looking for friends, outings and trips to the beach.\u00a0 <\/span>So where\u2019s the excitement?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Chloe had her talent show at school today and even that wasn\u2019t stress free.\u00a0 <\/span>She picked a new song over the weekend, \u201cOperator\u201d by Manhattan Transfer.\u00a0 <\/span>Picking a new song would be bad enough but this one is tricky.\u00a0 <\/span>Then, four acts before she was to sing a kid dropped the mic and broke it.\u00a0 <\/span>Aaarrrrgggg!!!!\u00a0 <\/span>It was an agonizing ten minutes before she was to go on.\u00a0 <\/span>Just before she was to sing they found another mic!!!\u00a0 <\/span>She sang her heart out and was a great closing act, although there were a couple kids following her.\u00a0 <\/span>We have it on tape from start to finish also.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After the performance Dana went back to work and I went to finish up a couple projects at the house before going home to my students.\u00a0 <\/span>I was under instructions to not call Dana between 7:30 and 8:00 tonight as Dr. Tomkoria was planning on calling her.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As things turned out the doctor called her at work.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s always dicey with patients waiting.\u00a0 <\/span>It was an important call however.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The blood work that was done last week all came back good.\u00a0 <\/span>So I guess we\u2019ll never really know what the coughing and vomiting was all about.\u00a0 <\/span>Chloe is back to being \u201cwell\u201d now though so we are breathing a sigh of relief with that part.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Next topic\u2026 her weight.\u00a0 <\/span>She has lost weight over the past seven months for no apparent reason.\u00a0 <\/span>She has some very good eating days and then there are some that are moderate.\u00a0 <\/span>Until her latest sickness she really didn\u2019t have any \u201cbad\u201d eating days.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Doctors all concurred that we should do something while their heads are together.\u00a0 <\/span>So Chloe is going back on Periactin, the eating stimulant, to see if we can get her going the other way on the charts.\u00a0 <\/span>This is a \u201cBandaid\u201d until we find the solution to turn her weight around.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s felt there needs to be a Nutritionist involved.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ve been this route before but the doctors feel it\u2019s something we should try again.\u00a0 <\/span>The problem is that insurance may not pay for this again.\u00a0 <\/span>So we\u2019ll dance that line for now.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Next on the list is \u201cBehavioral Counseling\u201d for a variety of reasons.\u00a0 <\/span>One is her pattern of eating.\u00a0 <\/span>The doctors feel that the pattern has been around before the tumor had anything to do with it.\u00a0 <\/span>This is confusing to Dana and me.\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019ll have to revisit this soon.\u00a0 <\/span>Next is the concern that Chloe\u2019s life is filled with events that have her stressed.\u00a0 <\/span>This mainly revolves around loss.\u00a0 <\/span>She is hesitant to have another counselor, as she tends to get very attached to them.\u00a0 <\/span>The first was lost when the insurance changed and the second when she left the area.\u00a0 <\/span>She misses each of her teachers as she changes grades or they move away.\u00a0 <\/span>So there is a pattern in her life that reveals she doesn\u2019t handle loss well.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Chloe is pretty much okay with the plan, even though she\u2019d rather not have another counselor.\u00a0 <\/span>The other problem with the counselor is that she sees patients on Thursday mornings only.\u00a0 <\/span>That means Dana will lose more time at work, something that really stresses her and her finances out.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a hard balance to be with your child all the times it\u2019s needed and to fit enough work in to keep the machine running.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m available to take her to her appointments, however, with counselors, they have to get to know the Mom as well as the child.\u00a0 <\/span>That will mean a few trips until Chloe is comfortable going in alone.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When we get more details we\u2019ll let you know.\u00a0 <\/span>Right now we are in the \u201cfigure it all out\u201d stage.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
