Here we are, starting week three.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s hard to believe we have been here two full weeks tonight and that we are all still sane\u2026 to one extent or another.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Chloe had a good rest last night but started the morning out pretty bad.\u00a0 <\/span>Dana knew it was not going to be a good morning after she first spilled coffee on one of our Doctors and a few minutes later christened another.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The feeding tube clogged due to a certain medicine that probably should not go down the tube.\u00a0 <\/span>Unfortunately we didn\u2019t find out how to unclog it until the decision to pull it out came down the pike.\u00a0 <\/span>Poor Chloe.\u00a0 <\/span>This is a miserable procedure.\u00a0 <\/span>They went for a size 10 tube again and after three tries another nurse came in and told them a 10 would not pass through.\u00a0 <\/span>Dana had suggested a size 8 to begin with.\u00a0 <\/span>Now with the nasal passage so inflamed a size 8 was a chore.\u00a0 <\/span>Chloe was the model patient even still.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Her pain spiked throughout the morning and afternoon but seems to be a little less and holds on for a shorter period of time.\u00a0 <\/span>She is on heavier pain meds however.\u00a0 <\/span>That could, very well, be the reason for the difference.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Her temperature is still elevated, although it has been almost normal a few times due to the Tylenol.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a false sense of a turning point when she registers normal.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Spinal Tap results are not official yet but she, most likely, has surgical meningitis.\u00a0 <\/span>This is a treatable condition, albeit very painful in spikes.\u00a0 <\/span>She had an \u201cimpressive\u201d amount of white cells in her fluid.\u00a0 <\/span>That is not necessarily a bad thing as they are the soldiers fighting this battle.\u00a0 <\/span>It does indicate something nasty is going on though.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This afternoon was pretty good for her.\u00a0 <\/span>Her pain level was way down and she was pretty talkative, even though it is at a volume that is hard for me to hear.\u00a0 <\/span>She was making beaded bracelets when I arrived with Diane from Child Life.\u00a0 <\/span>Diane is a wonderful source of joy for Chloe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another source of joy was a visit by a four-legged friend today.\u00a0 <\/span>Dr. Judy approved a visit by a golden lab.\u00a0 <\/span>Chloe ate it up.\u00a0 <\/span>The dog was actually on her bed being stroked into submission.\u00a0 <\/span>Later I asked Chloe if she wanted more of those.\u00a0 <\/span>She was pretty darn clear that it was a huge boost to her spirits.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dana had to leave to go home and care for her sick dog.\u00a0 <\/span>So now she has her dog on antibiotics, her son on his second dose of antibiotics and Chloe on everything under the sun.\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019d think she could catch a break here.\u00a0 <\/span>She was back by 7 P.M.\u00a0 <\/span>I was hoping she\u2019d fall asleep and stay the night at home.\u00a0 <\/span>I was all ready to be there the night.\u00a0 <\/span>She\u2019s way too much the Mama to do that though.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m glad she is vigilant.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Just before shift change at 7 P.M. Dave and Ramona came by for a visit.\u00a0 <\/span>Chloe always loves to see them.\u00a0 <\/span>They stayed through the shift change.\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019re locked in the unit for an hour during the change of shift.\u00a0 <\/span>It happens at both 7 O\u2019clock hours.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When I left tonight she was tuning in Jay Leno for Dana\u2026 so she says\u2026\u00a0 <\/span>She had an icepack on her head so the pain was creeping up.\u00a0 <\/span>So was her temperature.\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s the time of night for that.\u00a0 <\/span>So pretty soon the nurse would help her sleep.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As I was getting my hug and kiss from Wonder Girl she assured me that she would be getting better soon.\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cIt just takes a little while, but I\u2019ll get better.\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>She speaks the truth.<\/span><\/p>\n
