When Dana showed up at the Chloe Benefit Garage Sale this morning I knew the face of distress.\u00a0 <\/span>Dave was able to spend the night with Chloe last night so Dana spent the night at home last night, with Ivey, her sick dog.\u00a0 <\/span>Four years ago Ivey underwent emergency surgery for a Kidney Stone blockage.\u00a0 <\/span>She is now showing signs of the same thing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dana holds the worry of Chloe, who has regained her temperature and nausea, and their best friend, Ivey, who is fighting her own battle of survival.\u00a0 <\/span>It was too much to bear for her today I could tell.\u00a0 <\/span>She sat with me at the sale for about an hour and then just couldn\u2019t take it any longer.\u00a0 <\/span>She needed to get back to the hospital before she was unable to even drive.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A friend had volunteered to check Ivey later in the day to see if she was able to pass urine.\u00a0 <\/span>This is the worry.\u00a0 <\/span>If her bladder blocks up it\u2019s a call for emergency surgery.\u00a0 <\/span>If it\u2019s Sunday that means going to Dove Lewis animal hospital, and a much higher bill than her family Vet.\u00a0 <\/span>In the face of the astronomical bills she is facing from Chloe\u2019s medical tragedy and lack of time at work, one more major bill would be unbearable.\u00a0 <\/span>She left extremely beat up over this.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I jumped on the phone to Dove Lewis.\u00a0 <\/span>The first person I spoke with agreed to take the website address and pass it by a doctor.\u00a0 <\/span>They would ask the doctor to call me.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Then I jumped on the computer and emailed everyone I could find on their website.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

About an hour later there was a message on my phone from a nice doctor at Dove Lewis wanting more information.\u00a0 <\/span>After some telephone tag I was assured that Ivey would, at least, be assessed if we needed to bring her in tonight.\u00a0 <\/span>Later, at the hospital, I received another call stating the Executive Director was getting involved.\u00a0 <\/span>Although they wouldn\u2019t say for sure I feel confident we have another answer to a prayer.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m sure it has something to do with all the years Dana volunteered at the Humane Society and that she is a former Dove Lewis patient\/mom.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After speaking with Dana I found out Chloe had a bad early afternoon.\u00a0 <\/span>She vomited so violently that the tube came out again.\u00a0 <\/span>This meant worry for Chloe over inserting another.\u00a0 <\/span>The decision was to go with a non-weighted tube and place it in her un-enflamed nostril this time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Chloe had a very hard time accepting the news but did what was needed of her to get it placed.\u00a0 <\/span>Dana was right with her and they watched the Wizard of Oz to take her mind off of everything during the procedure.\u00a0 <\/span>She says it didn\u2019t work.\u00a0 <\/span>She was well aware of everything, although the procedure is much easier on her than the weighted tube.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A few more medicine tweaks and she had a better evening.\u00a0 <\/span>In fact, when I arrived and handed her the envelope from the garage sale she saw the money and had a huge Chloe smile.\u00a0 <\/span>She had never seen hundreds before!<\/span><\/p>\n

We spent some pretty good time together. \u00a0<\/span>I brought her cherries, blueberries, red grapes, a couple apples and some red raspberry Snapple.\u00a0 <\/span>She loved it all.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

About 10 pm she started to feel a little squeamish but they were right on top of it.\u00a0 <\/span>She got over it quickly but the meds made her pretty drowsy.\u00a0 <\/span>I left after she fell asleep.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Her temps were up to 103 and down to 99.5 so they are all over the board.\u00a0 <\/span>Her heart rate raced to 200 during the vomiting.\u00a0 <\/span>She has a lot more definition in her face now but I still don\u2019t see a difference in the body yet.\u00a0 <\/span>That may be because I see her everyday.\u00a0 <\/span>She\u2019s up to 44 pounds at last count.\u00a0 <\/span>This is better than the 38 she came in as but a long way from acceptable.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
