Because We Love Her

Goodness life is just an amazing mystery, isn’t it?

Chloe has returned from an overnight trip with her class.  They have been studying the Oregon Trail all year and this was a culmination of that knowledge, work and excitement towards a trip to the woods, campfires and trail class’s.  So far I’m picking up a legend which Chloe shared with me about a Raven , Salmon and how a Robin got its orange chest.  Oh, theres more……this legend was told my “Grizzly”, camp director.  At this time, I’m only nodding and listening.  So many times, we interupt with our own thoughts rather than just be the listener.  I enjoyed watching her face as she told me of her adventures the last day/night.  She did catch a classmate in a moment of ‘injustice’ and we talked that out.  Basically, I just listned that one out…

Colin was a crew member of his school musical which debuted last week.  “Bye-Bye Birdie”.  It was about sold out!  Interesting note:  The director is also in the film being shot around Portland with Harrison Ford.  She(Andrea) plays the part of a Dr in the film.   Colin, at one point didnt get off the stage in time and was caught behind a set…dressed in black.

What I noticed about this play was the family atmosphere the kids refer to.  “We are a new family”.  For ten weeks, these kids stayed late, arrived early to work together.  It reminded me of my high school musical, Lil Abner that I was fortunate to be in.  Thank goodness for having a similar experience as I could SO relate to Colins world these last weeks.  He was both exhausted, yet vitalized by this expereience.  We seem to be on the right track…Colin’s village I mean ,by keeping him supported in the arts arena.

He’s just begun Sex-Ed with  “Tom doggy”….this is the teachers nicname.  Not to worry…I think Colin will get all A’s in this class…he’s nearly 14 now and very interested in this info.  We speak to him on this subject as if we are talking about Rain.   This seems to allow Colin to speak openly and tease vigorously on this subject.  Oh my Lord!

Colin also announced the results of a career type questionnaire in which he scored highest in the area of law enforcement.  I did mention to him that our friend, TJ is a fingerprint specialist in law enforcement….there are many areas to pay attention to.

A little note on Ivey.  She got lost Monday night.  Not in the way you’d expect.  I knew she was in the backyard but I spotted no movement, nor did she answer for over an hour.  Anything is possible with a Jack Russell…they can squeeze through a fencepost should they set their mind to it , although Ron had just made some fence repairs.    Finally, I went outside again to look and caught a white cloud out of the corner of my eye.  Buried was her head and shoulders……..in the ground………..butt in air…not moving.  Stillness speaks.

What she was after, stayed underground.

Am trying to find out what happend to Macey, the Jack Russell Terrier Chloe wrote about last Decemeber.  Macey is the 1 yr old pup whose jaw was broken, awaiting a $2,000 surgery.  More Later when I fiind out.  The Albany Democrat Herald did an article on it, yet the animal shelter I beleive was either in Corvallis or Lebanon.

Soon , I think we’ll venture out and do those regular dogwalks again.  I’ve been in contact with the woman who owns the dogs who ‘rushed’ us 2 weeks ago.  I told her, at some point I’d like to visit her dogs (by myself….) just to change my attitude about them…to change history.  I don’t want to have ‘stuff’ left over from that expereience.  She was so amiable to this and found it surprising.

Peace out

Dana

What an awesome experience Chloe, on your adventure. Boy, i remember “outdoor” school as a student as well as a counselor, and what great memories i have. So happy you got to do this !! I also think it’s great you spotted another person doing something that wasn’t quite right. That tells that you are so intuned to your surroundings. I’m very proud of you !!

Colin, what can i say ? You are soooo growing up !! You have many of the same interests as my Adam does, and i loved watching him in music as well as theater, whether it be on stage or off, and yes, you do become a close “family” and work so close together. These memories will stay with you always, and i really really hope you continue with both !!
AWESOME on the good grades !!! I love the idea of you considering law inforcement. There are many area’s of jobs from being an officer to fingerprinting like TJ to dispatching. Maybe one day you can have an officer give you a tour and do a ride-along. If you have a dream, you work towards it and never never let anyone stop you, including yourself !!

Dana, so happy you are thinking about going back to the dogs that traumatized you. What a wonder idea for healing !! Very proud of you as well my dear friend !!

    Love you all,
    Kat~
