Because We Love Her

Monday, June 21, 2010 Colin’s Birthday!

June 21st, 2010 Posted in Daily News Post

Happy Fifteenth Birthday Colin.  Whew! What a year you’ve had.  As a brother and son you’ve endured more than even I know. You created goodness, smiles and a certain knowing as you sat on the sidelines of family in crisis as we experienced the Chloe year in nightmare form.

You understood from the get go we would have a happy ending although even you had your moments, your moods and it all happened during an all important first year in high school.  You held no jealousy, no resentment which is tough even for adults.  This was a big year of watching you mature before my eyes.  Growing taller seemed to happen overnight.   And perhaps it actually did.

You’re friends, old and new became very important to you and I noticed this is a year you supported many through their trials as well.

It was beyond wonderful seeing your singing talents unfold in a huge way through youtubes and of course I smiled knowing you took some suggestions from me of songs that would be a natural for you.  And also , you found your own beat within many genre’s.

You surprised me by taking my birthday gift to you so well.  Not everyone would appreciate their mother cleaning their room in a seven hour extravaganza with any kind of appreciation.  Lets say I’m researching clutter and the whole spaghetti….well..never mind.  You know and that’s what matters.

I appreciated you working harder, refining the school habits as well as your chores at home.  You were split between houses this year and rode with the punch.  I want you to know I missed you then.

I really missed you.

I also appreciated that you didn’t complain, whine or even ask for more of what you weren’t getting at home.  You dove into choir with passion, your one act plays with devotion and the new choir..S.W.A.G with total commitment.  We all loved knowing you were teaching yourself how to play the piano via the use of your computer plus guitar and of course, the drums.

The video art you created with Chloe as the subject futher fueled your quest to film, create and sing. Wow!  That’s a lot of momentum.  The ‘Chloe’ videos were very inspiring and moving…not just to those who are in the know.  I understand and so must you these video’s were instrumental in Chloe’s healing.  She needed to know, and did how important she is to you.

Ivey appreciated you so much this year too.  She continues to watch over you closely because that’s how life works, Colin.  As you care and love for others so they shall for you as well.  Be selfless, not selfish which is a tough lesson to come to grips with.

As the book we read together so many years ago says…..and the one I discovered while cleaning your room……

I’ll love you forever

I’ll like you for always,

As long as I’m living

my baby you’ll be.

Tis good to be your Mudder , Colin…..

What an emotional note today. I, too, am very proud of Colin. Us adults know how hard it is to be a teen and know how to handle all the ickies life gives us.
Yes, it has been a rough year, but from the sounds of it, Colin deals with it through music. How great a release is that. I know, Colin, that you don’t know me all that well, but i do love you and am VERY proud of who you are !!!!

Love you big guy and HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!

    Happy Birthday Colin,

I am so very amazed by you and how you have walked through this last year. Some of us may not be in the circle closest to you, or know you personally, but we are watching, listening and praying for you in this process.

I have seen other families go through medical crisis with a child. I can not say though that most of the siblings fared as well as you. You have such a kind, loving way with your sister. And, as we watch from the outskirts of the situation at hand, you seem to be holding a torch of love, light and grace for your family. You are amazing.

I came to your choir concert, which was spectacular. I told your mother that this certainly was not the “choir” program of the days I attended Wilson. The show your choir presented made me “smile with my teeth showing”….. It was such a joy and happy experience to be entertained by one of the finest high school choirs I have ever seen.

    Thank you.

Again, happy birthday, and continue to do what you do, because you are doing it so well.

    Blessings,

    Wendy

Colin, happy belated birthday! I am so grateful that I had an opportunity to spend time with you away from everyone and everything! You were a great concert buddy (even if you didn’t really know Elton John and Billy Joel). Thanks for sharing your laughter and your true self with so many! You are an inspiration to me! Much love and wishes for a very fruitful, love-filled year ahead! Much love, Barb

I know I’m terribly late with this — major computer problems that may now (knock on wood) be over. At least for a while.

    Anyhow …

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    And many happy returns,

    Sarah Koch
